With Danilo in Motion: 'Every Day a Step Forward'
Danilo is now a teenager and growing fast – not only in height and weight, but also in his own unique way of being and communicating. As he gets heavier, moving him physically has become more challenging. This means we have to be even more mindful about how we support his movement and how we can prevent secondary complications from prolonged sitting – such as pressure sores, misalignment, or overheating.
To address this, we are currently in discussions with specialized 3D printing companies to develop a custom-made, breathable seat insert. This solution is intended to reduce the risk of pressure points, help him sit more symmetrically, and – very importantly – prevent his back from getting too warm, which he absolutely dislikes and clearly shows. 3D printing gives us the opportunity to tailor the support and airflow precisely to Danilo’s body, using smart, high-performance materials.
Though his world is different, Danilo is stable and surrounded by a sense of peace and warmth that he shares in small, powerful ways. While he cannot communicate in conventional ways, he makes it very clear what he likes and dislikes. Through facial expressions, body language, and increasingly through sounds, he expresses himself in a way that is becoming richer all the time – in his own, personal language.
As parents, it’s a continuous process of tuning in, adjusting, and thinking ahead. We’re constantly looking for practical solutions and innovations that offer him comfort, freedom of movement, and dignity.
All of this is made possible thanks to the support of the people around us – volunteers, the activities we organize, and everyone involved who accompanies us with care and dedication.
